Spring Fringe is a Scottish Country Dance event which runs over a weekend in April. Spring Fringe runs classes for dancers young and old. There will be a series of classes for a range of abilities on the Saturday and Sunday. These include classes for more and less experienced dancers, a ceilidh classes and one featuring quadrilles as well as childrens classes. Fringe runs in parallel with the RSCDS Spring Fling event which focuses on dancers between 12 and 35 years old. As well as classes there are dances on both the Friday and Saturday nights – which also run in conjunction with the RSCDS Spring Fling.
The two dances of the weekend take place in Kelvin Hall in the west end of Glasgow – all venues being used during the weekend are situated in this part of the city and are within easy walking distance of each other.
The weekend will start with a dance on Friday night for Fling and Fringe dancers.
There are two streams of adult class on Saturday morning – for more and less experienced dancers. Then there is a break of a couple of hours to allow people to have a leisurely lunch in some of the great cafes and restaurants in the area. The Saturday afternoon programme features a choice of a Glasgow themed dance class or a walk through of dances on the ball programme.
Saturday evening gives everyone the chance to dress up for dinner and the ball – again at Kelvin Hall.
For people who still have energy there are ceilidh and quadrille classes on Sunday morning and the weekend finishes with a lunch for everyone – Fling, Fringe and children.
Spring Fringe classes will take place in the Stevenson Building, Glasgow University. This is a couple of minutes walk from the children’s class venue and class times have been arranged to allow parents to drop children off and pick them up while still being able to participate fully in the adult classes.
Parking can sometimes be a challenge in the west end of Glasgow but there is on street metered parking available in the vicinity and a number of car parks within easy walking distance. A limited amount of parking will be available at Hillhead High School. The area is also very well served by public transport.
Further details of dance programmes, classes and other events will be published here as they become available… so check back soon.
